Heathfield School - New Classrooms Building (STEM)

The existing teaching laboratories were in need of major refurbishment and updating; for these reasons the School favoured a new dedicated STEM building which would provide modern teaching facilities within a safe environment.

The resultant project was a low energy two storey design built with sustainability in mind that achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘very good.’

Sustainability features included LED lighting with natural lighting from rooflights, sun tubes and large areas of glazing.  Photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof with ‘Passivent’ ventilation as part of the sustainable design.

The facilities included four laboratories (Chemistry, Biology, General Sciences and Physics), three classrooms, tutorial space and a science preparation room.

This building has made a significant contribution towards maintaining the school’s high standard of STEM teaching.
