Founder's Residences Refurbishment

The Founder's Building, built in the late 19th century is the original building of Royal Holloway University.  It is a stunning example of 'Gothic Revival' architecture and its value to construction is reflected with a Grade I listing.

The building is multi-purpose and the scope of this project was to completely refurbish floors two to five, which serve as student accommodation.  The works were split into three phases as follows:

Phase I – Refurbishment and fitting out of 425 student bedrooms spanning all four floors during the summer holiday period.

Phase II – Complete modernisation of 46 bathrooms and 16 pantries, staggered so works could be undertaken during term time.

Phase III – Refurbishment of second to fifth floor corridors whilst students were in occupation.
