Willowbrook Sports Pavilion and All-Weather Hockey Pitches
HDC were appointed for the construction of a new sports pavilion along with two full sized hockey pitches and a warm up area to meet FIH standards.
The pavilion itself comprises of a SIPS superstructure with shou-sugi ban charred larch cladding, a Schüco glazing system and rooftop viewing deck. The project also required a new access road with car park, section 278 works to the existing highway and a full planting scheme to add balance to the surroundings.
Complexity was added to the project due to the fact that we required two main contractors to work concurrently on the site. Whilst the pavilion required a traditional procurement approach, the construction of the all-weather pitches and landscaping scheme was much more akin to design and build.

​In the summer months the hockey pitches can also be converted into tennis courts.
Willowbrook Sports Pavilion was also nominated for 'Leisure Project of the Year' in the AJ Architectural Awards 2018. Read more in Dezeen magazine.
