Chestnuts
This project is a great example in reducing carbon impact from
construction. Chestnuts was an unused, dilapidated but attractive
building which has been altered, upgraded and fitted out bringing
it back into use once more.
The existing building was end of life with structural concerns, water leaks and redundant M&E services. To start with it was stripped back, the layout altered to open up the plan and an extension with evacuation lift added on for a significant accessibility upgrade.

Building fabric was then substantially improved including additional insulation and air tightness measures. Windows and doors were upgraded to double and triple glazed units. The services were
completely renewed taking the building off of gas and onto Air Source Heat Pumps – PV has also been installed on the roof.
The building has been finished to a high standard and is now home to a new School of Life Sciences. It comprises a combination of teaching spaces including 65-seater Lecture Theatre and feature space the Creative Lab with high vaulted ceilings on the first floor. There is a combination of rooms for staff offering both open plan and individual offices as well as small private booths for online meetings.
The refurbished building has been brought back into use for many decades and provides a stand out example of our clients commitment to reduce their carbon footprint.
