The concept was to create a light and airy feel to the building with direct access to outside play areas from all of the ground floor classrooms, favoured by Ofsted. Glass block walls and carefully positioned windows and rooflights create a similar effect at first floor level.

Key features of this project include:

  • Smooth ‘off-white’ bricks used in the outer skins of external walls

  • Curved glass block feature wall to dance area at first floor level

  • Blue tinted glass canopy between ground and first floor on two sides of the building creating a refracted lighting effect on the light coloured external brick walls below

  • The inverted cone shaped external column picked out in red below the glass canopy
