This scheme involved the modernisation of the New Schools site which was occupied by grade II listed buildings circa 1861. The brief was to improve the shortfall in teaching space and restructure the Mathematics, Geography, and Information Technology Departments in a phased manner, maximising spatial gain and minimising disruption to the school.

A master plan was produced and accepted by both the Local Authority and English Heritage who were involved at each stage of the construction process.

The principal features of the project include:

  • A new contemporary second floor, partly concealed behind the existing roof parapet walls. The existing pitched roof was demolished, (Phase 1

  • A stone faced two storey extension in cannon yard to accommodate the IT department, (Phase 2)
